18 April 2018 - Industry leaders and representatives brainstormed the benefits of workforce development and Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF) in a partnership forum organized by the Australian Embassy - The Asian Foundation and Philippine Business for Education at Tower Club Makati.
In the forum, it was mentioned that workforce training was beneficial to both employers and employees in building a competitive workforce. Benefits include the following: increase in productivity, keeping up of trends, and improvement of the company’s image. This is further supported by future prospects on tax incentives for workforce training as part upcoming additions to Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) packages.
The PQF, on the other hand, is a recently-enacted law that standardizes skill sets based on the recognition of knowledge, skills, and values acquired by an individual through education and training, skills and competencies. It establishes national standards and levels that the government, industry, and education sectors can utilize.
With the recent changes in the country’s education system, especially in the implementation of K to 12 program, it is high time for industries to be more proactive in workforce development. PBEd believes that through the cooperation of the private sector, the academe, and the government, a better path to development may be achieved.
Given proper coordination, it would be possible for the government, industries, and academe to stimulate and engage the country’s workforce with relevant curricula, competent training, and graduates that fit current industry demand.
